Head of Consumer – Job Description
Salary Band – 60k - 75k
A high profile, challenging leadership role supporting the agency’s founder
as a core part of the senior leadership team. You have an entrepreneurial
spirit and a passion for media relations.
You are a tenacious self-starter with a genuine passion for interiors and
lifestyle PR, and will be working with a plethora of household names and
best in class brands.
You will be responsible for delivering the communications strategies for
each of the brands within the division, ensuring each of these is
creatively inspiring, aligned to organisational objectives and consistently
delivers strategic impact; all with a dash of rock n roll thrown in.
As the most senior communications advisor to a range of the UK’s biggest
and best brands, you will lead and develop the consumer PR team, mentoring,
and pushing team members to deliver their very best work and encouraging
innovation and best practice daily.
You will lead by example and be equally comfortable drafting a new business
pitch as you will be picking up the phone and selling in the latest product
launch for your clients.
You have:
• Minimum six years’ experience in a PR agency role
• An entrepreneurial attitude
• A roll up your sleeves and get it done approach.
• A genuine passion for PR and securing outstanding press coverage for
clients.
• Be an engaging, inspiring leader able to get results and build
capability, capacity, and an inclusive culture across the team and
agency.
• Extensive experience and proven results leading a consumer PR team to
deliver large-scale, integrated communications strategies and
programmes fully aligned to business objectives.
• Excellent strategic judgement to make decisions about client and
agency issues and advise senior leaders.
• Experience of devising and delivering award winning PR campaigns
• An enviable little black book of media contacts
• Experience of managing a P&L budget would be ideal.
• Be based in the Reading area (Berkshire/Bucks)
Education: A degree in Marketing, Law, Journalism, International Relations,
Public Relations, Information Technology, Communications or English (or
related degree). Or a working experience equivalent.
Experience: Six years’ worth of experience working in a high-ranking PR
position, for example, as a senior account director. A proven and
successful role in a staff management position, preferably the management
of a PR team in at least 5 years of your total experience. A successful
track record in garnering positive media coverage for brands or products in
complex business settings/markets.
Communication Skills: Often the primary representative and spokesperson of
the agency and its clients both internally and externally, you will
interact on behalf of the agency with numerous media outlets and most
importantly clients. Internally, you will lead the PR team ensuring
effective communication with efficient execution of functions within the
department.
The ability to present numerous presentations to the founder and senior
leadership team and the media. Exceptional communication skills to ensure
the clear conveyance of the agency’s messages and a positive portrayal of
the business in general. The ability to communicate complex and technical
messages in simple terms that different audiences can relate to.
Analytical/Creative Skills: The ability to portray superior analytical and
creative skills which develop enterprise-level PR and communication
strategies as well as creative and engaging business and product messages
that appeal to clients, press and consumers alike.
Leadership Skills: The ability to move, drive, and motivate a team to
successful completion of its goals and objectives. A keen eye for PR and
communications talents that will help grow the team. An inspirational
leader to push limits and produce outstanding results, with an iron core
no-nonsense approach.
Interpersonal/People Skills: Outstanding interpersonal to ensure various
interactions are smooth and uncomplicated with effective execution. Self-
motivated and inspiring to others to do the same, being a great problem
solver, exceptional negotiation skills; being proactive and going beyond
the call of duty, being an eager learner, willing to learn new market
trends and to learn from others.
People Skills: Outstanding people skills. As the lead representative of the
division to the media, consumers, external partners etc, being extremely
likeable and relatable, able to build strong, meaningful, and lasting
relationships with any audience is key.
